If you are a student, you already know what September does to your inbox. Summer 2027 internship postings go up, new grad programs open, and every career centre newsletter says "apply early".
They are not wrong about the timing. We can see it in our own data.
Across the tech companies we track, roles with "intern" or "new grad" (or "early career", "graduate", "entry level") in the title were first posted at a pace of 50 to 70 a month from June through August. In September it was 126. The weeks of September 7 and 21 each brought more of these roles than any whole week in August. The season is on, right now.
Here is what is actually open, counted on October 6, 2026 as distinct roles (one role posted in ten cities counts once).
Internships: 154 roles at 60 companies
64 of the 154 intern titles name 2027 outright ("Software Engineer Intern (Summer 2027)" is the most common), so a big share of this is next year's cycle being filled now.
The companies with the most intern roles open:
| Company | Intern roles |
|---|---|
| Lyft | 13 |
| Robinhood | 10 |
| Epic Games | 9 |
| Anduril Industries | 8 |
| Figma | 7 |
| Sezzle | 7 |
| Coinbase | 6 |
| Cresta | 6 |
| Ramp | 5 |
| Virtu | 5 |
Not every intern role is engineering (there are data science and product design internships in there too), but most are.
The pay is worth knowing before you negotiate anything. 73 of the intern roles publish a band, and they are written as yearly figures. The median runs from about $96,000 to $104,000 a year, which on a 40-hour week is roughly $46 to $50 an hour.
The stack, if you are deciding what to polish this term: Python is in 81 of the 154 intern roles, more than half. Then TypeScript (32), AWS (29), SQL (29), React (29), JavaScript (27), Go (23) and C++ (22).
New grad: thinner, and concentrated
Roles with a new grad or early career title are a smaller set: 80 roles at 39 companies. Two companies have a third of them: Anduril Industries with 14 and Sezzle with 13. After that it drops fast, to Together AI with 4 and Canonical, Notion and Stripe with 3 each.
52 of them publish pay, with a median band of about $90,000 to $135,000.
Plenty of entry-level work does not say "new grad" in the title at all, though. If you widen to every role our data marks as junior, whatever it is called, there are 539 open at 183 companies. That is 4.6% of all open tech roles, about one in twenty two. The biggest junior hirers are Anduril (44), Binance (40), Lyft (21), Sezzle (20), Stripe (14) and Affirm (13). The median junior band runs from about $100,000 to $127,000.
So the useful search is not just "new grad". It is "junior" plus "new grad" plus "early career" plus the plain titles at companies that hire juniors without labelling the role.
You will probably be in an office
Of the 154 internships, 67 are onsite and 62 hybrid. 23 are remote within a country, and 2 are labelled remote from anywhere. Internships are an in-person thing in 2026, whatever the rest of the market does.
What we would do this month
Apply now rather than in January. The September jump is the companies telling you when they are filling these.
Search three ways: intern titles, new grad titles, and junior-level roles with ordinary titles. The third group is by far the biggest, and the easiest to miss.
Look past the famous names. Ten companies hold about half the internships, and the other 50 companies hold the rest.
If you are choosing one language to get really comfortable in, the board keeps saying Python.
Every role on remoet.dev/jobs shows its level, and if you star the companies you want, their new intern and grad roles come to you as they post instead of you checking back every week. An agent can search the whole board without an account, which is handy at 1am during application season. We also wrote about where junior developers actually get hired back in June, if you want the longer view.
What the numbers do not show
Titles are matched with simple patterns, so a role called "Associate Engineer" that is really entry level only shows up in the junior count, not the new grad one. Our history before March is too thin to say whether this September is bigger or smaller than last year's, so we are not claiming that. The pay figures only cover roles that publish a band. And everything is one day, October 6, 2026.
If you are in the middle of this cycle and seeing something different (more roles, fewer, weird requirements), tell us in Discord. We are genuinely curious what it looks like from your side.
