About

Goodnotes is a cross-platform digital note-taking application founded in 2011 by Steven Chan. Chan built the first version while studying mathematics at the University of Queensland in Australia. The company operated as a one-person team for five years until the Apple Pencil launched in 2015 and accelerated growth.

Headquartered in London with an office in Hong Kong, Goodnotes lets users handwrite or type notes, annotate PDFs, convert handwriting to text via OCR, and keep everything synced across iPad, iPhone, Mac, Windows, Android, and the web. Goodnotes 6 introduced AI-powered features including handwriting spellcheck and word completion that rewrites text in the user's own handwriting style. The app won Apple's iPad App of the Year in 2022.

Goodnotes also offers specialized products for education (Goodnotes Classroom) and enterprise (Goodnotes for Business).
