Chime is a fintech, not a bank. They partner with The Bancorp Bank and Stride Bank to deliver consumer banking products: fee-free checking and savings, a Visa debit card, a secured credit-builder card, SpotMe overdraft, and early direct deposit.
The model runs on interchange rather than monthly fees, overdraft fees, or minimum balances. Account opening doesn't require a credit check, and the customer base skews toward everyday Americans underserved by traditional banks.
Co-founded in 2012 by Chris Britt and Ryan King. Headquartered in San Francisco. Stated mission is to "unite everyday people to unlock their financial progress."
