About
Basecamp is the project management product from 37signals: tasks, messaging, files, and scheduling in one workspace. Most customers are companies with fewer than 100 employees. 37signals says 75,000 organizations across 166 countries use it.
37signals has been around since 1999 and launched Basecamp in 2004. Co-founded and still run by Jason Fried (CEO) and David Heinemeier Hansson (CTO, the creator of Ruby on Rails). The company describes itself as "profitable for 25 straight years," zero debt, privately held, "built to stay, not exit." Other products in the house: HEY, Fizzy, and ONCE.
The shop is famously opinionated and writes a lot about how it works. "Small teams." "Work isn't war." "Don't emulate the office." "Pay people, not addresses." Remote, location-independent pay, six-week Shape Up cycles, no hustle culture. If you've read Rework or It Doesn't Have to Be Crazy at Work, that's the management posture you're applying into.
