Tech Job Market Report: May 2026

A snapshot of what's open across the 1,056 companies we track on remoet.dev. 755 of them are hiring right now. The rest are quiet this month.

12,798 active job openings. Here's how they break down.

Where the work is

Location policyJobsShare
Fully remote1,78814%
Remote, region-restricted2,61120%
Hybrid2,07916%
Onsite1,49312%
Unspecified4,82738%

The "unspecified" bucket is large because most career-page scrapers don't normalize location policy. We're improving extraction; expect that share to drop in future reports.

What pays

Salary bands across roles that mention each tech, drawn from 3,338 postings with disclosed USD comp. Caveat: postings with public salary skew toward US states with pay-transparency laws (CA, CO, NY, WA), so absolute levels run high. Filtered to techs with at least 50 postings.

Junior-friendly roles

328 active postings tag themselves as junior-level. That's about 2.6% of the total. The market still favors experienced hires: 5,707 senior, 1,936 mid, 328 junior. Anyone in their first three years should treat the junior subset as their working set and sort by company match before applying.

Most common benefits

Counted by distinct companies offering each benefit on at least one active posting. Free-text benefit fields get noisy fast, and only about half of postings list any benefits at all.

  1. Equity, 112 companies

  2. Competitive salary, 66

  3. Health insurance, 66

  4. Parental leave, 54

  5. Paid time off, 52

  6. Dental insurance, 45

  7. Paid parental leave, 41

  8. Vision insurance, 39

  9. Stock options, 38

  10. Flexible working hours, 38

Methodology

Data is pulled from 1,056 company career pages, scraped and enriched daily. Active-job counts are point-in-time as of report generation. Salary numbers reflect only postings that publish compensation, which biases toward US pay-transparency jurisdictions.

Coverage expanded substantially through April. Month-over-month job totals will look inflated until the new sources stabilize, so treat absolute numbers as current snapshots, not as growth signals, until the next report.
